Mental Health Treatments We Offer in Boston

Ketamine Therapy

IV ketamine therapy is a fast-acting treatment for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD that can produce relief within hours to days, compared to weeks for traditional antidepressants. In a 2023 Mass General Brigham clinical trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine, 55% of patients with treatment-resistant depression who received ketamine experienced sustained improvement in depressive symptoms. We administer IV ketamine in a private, monitored clinical setting in Cambridge for our Boston patients.

Spravato

SPRAVATO (esketamine) is FDA-approved, in conjunction with an oral antidepressant, for adults with treatment-resistant depression and for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior. Cambridge Biotherapies™ is a SPRAVATO® REMS-certified outpatient healthcare setting, meaning we meet the FDA’s requirements for safe administration and monitoring. Many major Boston-area insurance plans cover SPRAVATO®, and our team manages prior authorization on your behalf.

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy combines the rapid antidepressant effects of ketamine with structured therapy sessions designed to integrate the experience into lasting change. Ketamine induces a temporary state of neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to form new connections, and our clinicians use that window to help you build new perspectives, habits, and coping skills. KAP is delivered by licensed psychotherapists alongside our psychiatric team.

TMS

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. TMS is cleared for major depressive disorder, OCD (as an adjunct), anxious depression, and adolescent depression ages 15–21. Sessions take roughly 20–40 minutes, require no anesthesia, and allow you to drive yourself home and return to work the same day.

Accelerated TMS

Accelerated TMS condenses a traditional six-week TMS course into approximately five days of intensive treatment. It delivers intensive theta-burst stimulation over a compressed treatment timeline. For Boston patients who cannot commit to daily sessions over six weeks, Accelerated TMS offers an evidence-based alternative.

We know that seeking out treatment for depression and anxiety can feel overwhelming.

Conditions We Treat for Boston Patients

Depression

Major depressive disorder affects more than 21 million U.S. adults each year, and for roughly 30.9% of those treated, standard antidepressants do not produce remission, according to Zhdanava et al. in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry (2021). For Boston patients with depression — including treatment-resistant depression — we offer IV ketamine, SPRAVATO®, TMS, and Accelerated TMS, all delivered in our Cambridge clinic by board-certified providers.

Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health condition in the United States, with a 19.1% past-year prevalence and 31.1% lifetime prevalence per NIMH. When therapy and medication aren’t enough, advanced options can help. We treat anxiety in Boston patients with IV ketamine, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, and TMS for anxious depression (an FDA-cleared TMS indication for adults with comorbid anxiety and depression).

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder affects 3.6% of U.S. adults in any given year and 6.8% over a lifetime, per NIMH, with rates rising to 7% among veterans. For Boston patients living with PTSD, we offer IV ketamine and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, both of which have shown rapid antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects in clinical research for trauma-related symptoms. We also work closely with veteran patients through our dedicated PTSD program.

OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder has a 2.3% lifetime prevalence per NIMH, with 50.6% of those affected experiencing serious impairment in daily functioning. For Boston patients with OCD, TMS is FDA-cleared as an adjunct treatment alongside therapy and medication. We also offer IV ketamine, which has shown promise in clinical research for OCD, particularly for patients who have not responded to SSRI’s.

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder requires precise diagnosis and careful treatment planning, particularly because some antidepressant and rapid-acting therapies can trigger manic or hypomanic episodes if not properly managed. Our board-certified psychiatrists conduct thorough evaluations to determine whether advanced treatments — including ketamine for bipolar depression in carefully selected patients — are appropriate. Every treatment plan is individualized, monitored closely, and coordinated with your existing care team.

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum depression affects approximately 1 in 7 women in the U.S. and can develop anytime within the first year after childbirth, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Symptoms often go beyond the typical ‘baby blues’ — persistent sadness, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and difficulty bonding with your baby are signs to take seriously. For Boston-area mothers whose symptoms aren’t responding to first-line treatment, IV ketamine, SPRAVATO®, and TMS may offer faster relief than traditional antidepressants.
